Cleaner Elephant and Castle is committed to providing professional cleaning services in a manner that protects the health, safety and wellbeing of our employees, clients, visitors and members of the public. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with cleaning activities and maintaining safe working conditions at all times.

Policy Statement and Objectives

We recognise our responsibility to prevent injury, ill health and accidents arising from our work. Our objectives are to identify hazards, reduce risks to the lowest reasonably practicable level, and promote safe working practices throughout all cleaning operations. Senior management is responsible for ensuring that appropriate resources are allocated to implement this policy and for reviewing its effectiveness regularly. Every employee and contractor must take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.

Legal and Regulatory Responsibilities

Where our staff work on a client site, they must follow both our own health and safety rules and any applicable site-specific rules provided by the client.

Roles, Responsibilities and Communication

Management is responsible for establishing safe systems of work, providing suitable training, ensuring that risk assessments are carried out, and monitoring compliance. Supervisors are responsible for day-to-day implementation, including briefing staff, checking the safe use of equipment and personal protective equipment, and reporting any health and safety concerns.

Employees are responsible for cooperating with safety procedures, using equipment correctly, wearing any required personal protective equipment, reporting hazards, near misses and incidents promptly, and not undertaking any task for which they are not trained or authorised.

We promote open communication on health and safety matters. Employees are encouraged to raise concerns without fear of reprisal, and these concerns will be investigated and addressed wherever reasonably practicable.

Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices

Use and Storage of Cleaning Chemicals

Chemicals are stored securely, in clearly labelled containers and away from children, food, and incompatible substances. Staff must never mix chemicals unless specifically instructed by the manufacturer. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided and must be used in accordance with training and product information.

Equipment Safety and Maintenance

All cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor machines, steam cleaners and portable appliances, is selected, used and maintained to ensure safe operation. Before use, staff must visually check equipment for damage, loose cables or defects and remove any unsafe equipment from service immediately.

We arrange regular inspection, servicing and replacement of equipment as required. Employees are trained in the correct set up, operation and storage of all tools and machinery they are expected to use.
